Katie + Tim | Intimate Backyard Wedding | Raleigh, North Carolina

When I first met with Katie and Tim I think we were on FaceTime together for almost two hours…. Which seemed about right. Katie made a comment in her email to me about my work that echoed exactly what I try to do… tell the story of your day. So when we met… we were sold on each other.

Katie and Tim met during a pickup volleyball game at Washington Park in Denver where they were on opposite teams and Tim served up quite a few aces to Katie. When the game was over (because Tim skunked the team by serving to Katie) Katie went up and introduced herself to Tim. They swapped discord names because in Katies words ‘gamers do it differently’ and eventually Katie asked Tim out for some drinks….the rest was history. Through a few conversations they eventually found out they were from the same town and grew up there around the same time!

On May 10th 2024, Tim proposed to Katie after laying out a bit of ground work. He suggested getting dressed up to go to their favorite coffee spot near Denver Botanical Gardens. They ended up taking a detour where Tim would ask the question…. and of course obviously Katie said yes. He would later surprise Katie with a celebration with some of her closest friends in New York. The couple couldn’t wait so they eloped a couple months later in Cheesman Park (where Tim had proposed) in the presence of their parents and close friends.

As for their wedding celebration it was the perfect combination of intimate backyard wedding and wild party. Everyone tried not to cry…..everyone cried anyway. Tim and Katie’s personal vows were exchanged in front of their loved ones, who then got to share heartfelt speeches (that also made everyone cry) about the couple. Days like theirs truly remind me of why I love documenting – when there is so much love and joy in one place, on one day, it’s impossible to not feel like a part of it.
